AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS
Hot Spots' The 21st Century Enrichment Grants are awarded to innovative communtiy engagement projects, that are not accounted for in the school budget. The grants must address a 21st Century Learning Theme, an identified need and outline for community engagement. In 2016, Hillcrest was awarded a $3,000 grant for it's "Harvesting a Healthier Hillcrest" initiative. This grant allowed us to increase the number of raised organic vegetable beds, create a "farm to table" program for our students, offer all our teachers PD focused on utilizing our garden in their curriculum and host a "Wellness Night" for the community.
In 2017, Hot Spots awarded Hillcrest an additional $3,000 grant to start a STEAM and Environmental Literacy Program. This grant gives all Hillcrest teachers a PD focused on STEAM and renewable energy, increased opportunities to integrate STEAM learning with solving identified environmental issues and needs, and a STEAM Night for the Hillcrest Community.
